LAJCC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR JUNIOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
Overview
The Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the continuation of its Community/Junior College Scholarship Program, which was introduced in 2001. In 2009, the LAJCC will award two scholarships exclusively to students currently enrolled in a community or junior college in Los Angeles County (or to students residing in Los Angeles County and commuting to a community or junior college in Orange County).
The primary selection criteria are public service, the personal statement, and the applicant’s academic record. Other considerations include future goals, financial need, leadership, work history, and other activities (such as athletics and the arts). All applicants who satisfy the eligibility requirements (as stated below) are encouraged to apply.
Each 2009 scholarship recipient will receive a scholarship for $2,000 (to be used for Fall 2009 expenses at the recipient’s current college or another college or university that the recipient will transfer to at that time) and one-year paid membership in the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Recipients of a 2009 LAJCC Foundation Community/Junior College Scholarship will be required to serve four hours at an LAJCC-sponsored event or volunteer project, prior to beginning their Fall 2009 semester and prior to receipt of their scholarship award. Recipients are also required to attend a recognition ceremony, to be held in August 2009 (exact date will be announced at a later time). Recipients will be notified by July 31, 2009.
